We worked with Bigwood School inNottingham (now the Oakwood Academy) from the start of the visioning process through to the final design phase, helping them imagine and shape their fantastic new BSF (Building Schools for the Future) school, designed by Capita Architects and completed in September 2010.
We worked with the staff group through a whole school INSET and a series of exploratory workshops, with the extended leadership team, and with a variety of groups of students – with whom we designed and facilitated a ‘design for learning’ programme. Our work with students is featured as a case study on innovation in student engagement by Partnerships for Schools.
All of the work through the engagement process was focussed towards the vision and detail for the ‘shape’ of the new school – starting with the learning shape and the social shape, and then moving on to explore the physical shape.
We used a wide variety of exciting, creative and engaging processes to explore developing ideas, including drama, storytelling, poetry, making and mapping.
